MALAYSIA heaven of food….


Malaysia is known as the food paradise. There are many different races,religion which have different culture,food,clothes and customs.Today I am going to share some facts that I know about Indian cuisine in Malaysia.In Malaysia indians are 2,700,000, 7.3% of the Malaysian population (2010)[1).There are some food that I like the most.

banana-leafFirst and foremost,the most favourite  food of mine is the banana leaf rice.Many of us think that why they use banana leaf right.Eating on banana leaves is a custom that dates back thousands of years, however its benefits are still relevant today.Banana leaves are packed with plant-based compounds called polyphenols such as epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG, which is also found in green tea. Polyphenols are natural antioxidants that battle free radicals and prevent diseases. The food on banana leaf absorbs the polyphenols from the leaves, so that you get the benefit of the nutrition.Other than that,Banana leaves have a waxy coating that has a subtle but distinct flavour. When hot food is placed on the leaves, the wax melts and lends its flavour to the food, making it taste better. Next,many people use plastic or Styrofoam plates when they need disposable utensils, however banana leaves are a much more eco-friendly option. They decompose in a very short time, unlike plastic, which takes hundreds of years to biodegrade.These are some advantages of using banana leaf. Normally banana leaf rice menu has all the six flavours which is very important for humans called as (arunsuvvai).A full set of banana leaf rice contains payasam as the dessert and this usually be the great deal for lunch.You can have vegetarian or non-vege items on your banana leaf rice.

250px-dosai_chutney_hotel_saravana_bhavan  Dosai is a kind of pancake made from a fermented batter.Its main ingredients are rice and black gram. Dosai is a typical part of the South Indian diet and popular all over the Indian subcontinent. Traditionally, Dosai is served hot along with sambar and chutney. It can be consumed with idli podi as well.Dosa is high in carbohydrates and contains no added sugars or saturated fats.It is also a good source of protein. The fermentation process increases the vitamin B and vitamin C content.Dosai can be stuffed with fillings of vegetables and sauces to make a quick meal. They are served with  side dish which varies according to personal preferences.

idli_sambarIdli is a traditional breakfast in South India and popular in Malysia. Idli is a savoury cake.The cakes are made by steaming a batter consisting of fermented black lentils (de-husked) and rice. The fermentation process breaks down the starches so that they are more readily metabolized by the body.this is totally a fat free dish. Idlis are often served with sambar but this varies greatly by region and personal taste. Idlis are also  served with chutnies (coconut based), kaara chutney (onion based) or any curry .
